1ST CENTRAL brings Lennie the train to Guernsey for Liberation celebrations

1ST CENTRAL brings Lennie the train to Guernsey for Liberation celebrations
Children will be able to take a free train ride along the town seafront on Liberation Day, thanks to 1ST CENTRAL.

The insurance company has paid for Lennie – a 27ft long train – to come to Guernsey for the 70th anniversary celebrations.

Mike Leonard, Deputy Group CEO at 1ST CENTRAL, said: “70 years of freedom is a very important milestone in the island’s history and we wanted to be able to bring something different to the celebrations.

‘We are delighted to be able to be part of what is set to be a great, family-oriented day. As a very small island with no rail network, we thought it would be a great opportunity for youngsters to have a fun ride on a road train, at no cost to them or their parents.”

Lennie will start his journeys from the bus terminus, turning right and travelling along the South Esplanade, right around the roundabout at the slaughterhouse and back along to the front of the bus terminus. Rides will run from 10am to 2.30pm and again after the Cavalcade from approximately 4pm until 6pm.

The 1ST CENTRAL Liberation Train, which can carry between 16 and 24 people, will be free of charge, but players from the Guernsey College Football Academy will be on hand at the bus terminus to collect donations and hand out helium balloons.

All money raised will be used to buy high visibility bag tags for primary school pupils in St Peter Port where the main Liberation celebrations are taking place.
