For the past six weeks, we’ve hosted three students here at First Central Group as part of Digital Greenhouse Guernsey’s
Discover Digital internship programme.
The scheme provides students who are passionate about digital technology with practical experience in local companies, highlighting the variety of exciting and challenging careers in the sector.
Our interns Emma Torode, Thomas Harvey and Grainne Wrigley, have been working on coding a concept customer portal for our UK motor insurance broker, 1ST
The concept portal project could allow customers to view information about ongoing claims. The demonstration has taught students about how planning and implementation of coding can be used to adapt existing software, like our insurance platform Focus, for different requirements.
“We want all our interns to be creative and innovative during their time with us, we want them to think creatively and let them design something new. We were very impressed by the standard of knowledge and enthusiasm of the students – they made a huge contribution to our team and we are proud to be part of their educational journey and hope they all go on to find their ideal career path working with technology.”
Emma Torode, one of this year’s digital interns, said: “The past six weeks have flown by. The team here at First Central has taught me so much; it’s great learning on the job rather than in a classroom – you have the ability to implement what you’ve learnt into real projects instantly.”
The internship programme has been very successful for First Central. Mikey Chammings, who guided the students during their time here, was one of our previous digital interns and now has a future permanent position as an Associate Developer.
